RAJASTHAN ROYALS AND DEAKIN UNIVERSITY
A WINNING COMBINATION

Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Patrick Suckling, has welcomed the announcement of a pioneering sports education partnership between Australia’s Deakin University and the Indian Premier League’s Rajasthan Royals.

The partnership means that faculty from Deakin University’s respected Sports Management department will work with the Rajasthan Royals on team branding, sports marketing, and fan engagement.

“The Rajasthan Royals is one of the most exciting sporting teams in the world, while Deakin University has world class expertise in sports education and management,” said Mr Suckling.

“This agreement will not only promote sports education in India, it will also help to strengthen Deakin University’s already impressive record in sports marketing and development.”

Under the partnership Sports Management students at Deakin University will also be able to visit India and complete an internship with the Royals during the 2014 Indian Premier League season.

“This will be an invaluable opportunity for Deakin students to work in one of the most vibrant sporting contests in the world,” Mr Suckling said.

“The agreement between Deakin University and the Rajasthan Royals demonstrates how Australia’s booming education relationship with India includes a growing number of vocational and sporting institutions, as well as schools and universities. I hope more Australian universities can strike similar partnerships that help to broaden and deepen the relationship between our two countries.”
