VACANCY: VISA OFFICERS (A) & (B) – (SEVERAL)
The Australian High Commission is seeking suitably qualified people to fill a number of expected vacancies in the Visa Office of the Australian High Commission.
The Visa Office is a busy and challenging environment with a team-based structure and a commitment to client service. The successful applicants should be willing to work flexibly in a dynamic and challenging environment. The selection criteria and duty statement/job description for the position are attached.
The duty statements and the selection criteria for the two categories of Visa Officers are attached. Candidates interested in both categories need only submit a single application which should clearly indicate their level of capabilities. The candidate will be offered a two year contract subject to the successful completion of a 6 months probationary period.
The commencement salary for Visa Officer (A) would be Rs. 34,972/- per month and for Visa Officer (B) would be Rs. 28,376/- per month.

JOB DESCRIPTION – VISA OFFICER (A)
The New Delhi Office of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has a diverse caseload covering India, Nepal and Bhutan. The DIAC Office is divided into teams, which process a variety of temporary and permanent visa categories, or which have administrative, integrity checking or compliance functions. Each visa processing team is managed by an Australian-based Senior Migration Officer, who is assisted by one or more locally engaged Team Leaders.
Visa Officers may be placed in a team with duties requiring extensive travel in India, including to areas outside major centres. The positions will also involve conducting interviews, assessing claims and making recommendations and decisions. They will also require extensive writing, including reports, case notes, interview notes, letters and email responses.
Visa Officer (A) positions require that officer be able to assist in other teams or positions at short notice or with no notice and therefore require a high level of flexibility and adaptability.
DUTY STATEMENT
Visa Officers carry out a range of tasks assigned to them by the Senior Migration Officer or Principal Migration Officer. Visa Officer (A) positions require that officers be prepared to assist in other teams with no or short notice for short to medium periods of time. Tasks performed by visa officers may include any of the following:
• Attend to enquiries from clients face-to-face, via email and over the phone, and provide accurate and timely information;
• Manage a caseload of visa applications or referrals for integrity checking, including organising and prioritising cases;
• Assess visa applications, including electronic record-keeping, investigation of claims and making recommendations and/or decisions.
• Prepare reports, casenotes, interview notes, correspondence and other material in relation to immigration matters.
• Maintain accurate file and electronic records;
• Undertake investigations for integrity checking, including conducting interviews and site visits in various parts of India.
• Provide translation and interpretation of community languages as required
SELECTION CRITERIA
• Strong ability to interpret and apply policy and procedures in accordance with legislative requirements and use sound judgement in decision-making for a range of visa classes and/or citizenship applications.
• Ability to use a wide range of technology in the workplace.
• A high level of English written and oral communication skills.
• Very good organisational skills; a strong ability to monitor workflows, set priorities and use sound judgement in decision-making.
• Ability to provide a quality professional service, apply ethical work practices and maintain integrity in all aspects of your work.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team, adapt to a changing work environment and apply a high level of initiative and flexibility.
• Willingness to travel and represent the Visa Office to clients, agents and other stakeholders, as required.
