VACANCY: DEFENCE OFFICE MANAGER
The Australian High Commission is seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the position of Office Manager for the Defence Section.
The position is open to Australian citizens only. The successful applicant will be required to have or obtain an Australian security clearance.
The job description for the position is attached. Also attached are the selection criteria that the Interview Panel will use to assess applicants’ suitability for the position. Applicants must address each of the selection criteria and provide contact details of at least two referees.
Subject to the successful completion of a three month probationary period and the issuance of an appropriate Australian security clearance, the successful applicant will be offered a contract of employment of up to two years. The contract may be extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee.
The monthly salary at Broadband 4 - Higher Level 2 will be of Rs 93,100.
The successful applicant for the Defence Office Manager position should expect to commence employment from the second week of December 2008.
Please note the selection panel may also recommend a merit list of applicants who may be offered to temporarily fill this position when the incumbent is absent.

JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Manage the Defence Office including the supervision of LES and the management of Defence records and documentation.
2. Manage Defence expenditure including the preparation of the budget, approving expenditure, monitoring office expenditure and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Perform financial checks and compile financial reports.
3. Manage Defence assets including the procurement and disposal of equipment and vehicles, maintenance of asset registers and the conduct asset of checks. Coordinate the maintenance of Defence residences.
4. Liaise with other agencies, missions and Indian government organisations in support of Defence activities. Perform representational activities as directed by the Defence Adviser, including escorting official delegations.
5. Provide support to Defence personnel in India including the administering of personal entitlements and the coordination of arrival and departure arrangements.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Well developed organisational and administrative skills including experience in supervising staff.
2. Demonstrated ability in office management and in particular, experience in financial administration. An understanding of Australian Commonwealth audit regulations and procedures is desirable.
3. Demonstrated ability and experience in procurement and asset management.
4. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. An excellent command of English is required.
5. Well developed skills in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Please note: This position requires Australian Government security clearances.
