Certificate of competency
For the Renewal of your Certificate of Competency the following documentation must be submitted for Australian Maritime Safety Authority's approval for revalidation:
- Original certificates for sea service during the 5 years preceding your application.
- Certificate of Competency.
- Valid GMDSS Certificate.
- Medical Certificate.
Consular fee - AUD30 plus AUD2 for each page copied and certified (you may pay the fees in equivalent Indian Rupees).
You may need to prove that you have served on a ship at some time during the past five years, which is fully fitted with GMDSS equipment. Evidence should be in the form of a letter from the master or ship owner confirming that the ship is GMDSS fitted and that you operated the equipment while on board and that the ship did not carry a radio operator during that time.
Please also note that if you wish to continue to serve at sea you need to upgrade your certificate to meet the STCW95 standards prior to 31 January 2002. Upgrade courses for Australian certificate holders are available only in Australia. For more details please contact:
